Okay. Obviously, we shouldn’t expect a lot of fact-checking from the right wing nutwads as they equate euthanasia with hospice care. But this lad might want to use another example for his scare tactics.

People such as scientist Stephen Hawking wouldn’t have a chance in the U.K., where the National Health Service would say the life of this brilliant man, because of his physical handicaps, is essentially worthless.

You see, Stephen Hawking happens to be British. Please don’t tell the Ministry of Death.

  1. One important point on all this is that there is “rationing” in a market based is not an unlimited supply in either system and when you have greater demand than supply you have to have a from of rationing. The markets form of rationing (“death panel”) is higher prices, but higher prices soon attract a greater supply and the price moves to equilibrium. It is not a fun process but it is efficient in meeting quickly changing needs. The system is based on the ability to pay and the charity of others.

The socialized form of rationing (“death panel”) has to be a panel either regulating supply or demand. There is no way around it. Either certain patients are told no or an oversupply is created to assure service. It is not a fun process and it is a inefficient in meeting quickly changing needs. The system is based on coercion of government and its political whims and folly. Those with the ability to pay still get care outside the system.

The socialized system just does not measure up to a market system. The socialized system is both poor economics and poor morality. The current system is broken, and it does need to be reformed. It is a government subsidized, corporate aggrandized and media politicized mess that is anything but a market system.

  2. Don’t you think he’d be with BUPA?
